Become a Life-Long Learner

We are BIG advocates of life-long learning. As technology, techniques, and practices are constantly evolving, there is always something new to discover and a skill that you can brush up on.

January is typically known as a time to start afresh, set intentions and create your list of resolutions and goals. Whether your motto is ‘go big or go home’, ‘easy does it’, or you like to ‘wing it’, we are confident that you’ll find something here that will inspire you to level up your career as a Practice Manager – or indeed, move towards your goal of becoming one!

Higher Education

If you want to take your career to the next level, kick off 2022 by enrolling in a higher education course.

Now more than ever, practices are recognising the value in Practice Managers holding a Diploma of Practice Management or similar. There are shifts in the market where prospective employers are even listing it as a requirement in their job advertising. It’s certainly worth considering, to enhance your chances at landing your dream role.

Diploma of Practice Management – HLT57715

Can’t commit to a full Diploma? Why not try a Certificate III, IV or even a short course? The shorter the course, the greater the opportunity to mix-and-match your studies so you can learn a wider variety of subjects and become a fount of knowledge (even though – let’s face it – as a Practice Manager, you probably already are one!)

The Australian Government has developed several fantastic resources to help prospective students decide whether Higher Education is right for them and the different pathways available. These sites are a great place to start your research:

Online Learning Libraries

Instead of scrolling Facebook, why not use your screen time to upskill? Thanks to technology, we have the ability to learn from experts around the world which is really exciting! Online Learning Libraries have done the hard work in sourcing the experts, so all that’s left for you to do is sign up and reap the benefits. While some courses may not be Practice Management specific, there will certainly be something useful to learn that you can add to your toolbox.

Here are some of our favourites that offer self-paced learning and the ability to pick classes that best suit you.

LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn Learning is huge! All of the courses fall into three categories: Business, Technology and Creative so there is sure to be something applicable to your career. LinkedIn Learning offers monthly and annual subscription access.

Another great aspect of LinkedIn Learning is that you can pop your completion certificates straight onto your LinkedIn profile so everyone can see how accomplished you are! Access at: https://www.linkedin.com/learning/

Skillshare

Pitched as an ‘online learning community’, there are thousands of classes run by people who are considered experts in their fields or specialisations. Skillshare access is via a monthly subscription fee. Access at: https://www.skillshare.com

Udemy

Another fantastic learning library, not only are they great at an individual learning level, Udemy also has the capacity to offer tailored Business Solutions. This means that if you have personally found success in learning on their platform, you can consider what kinds of courses may be useful for your team, too. For individuals, you can pay by each class or course you take. Access at: https://www.udemy.com

Podcasts

Unless you work around the corner from home (lucky you!), you probably have some time to enjoy a podcast during your commute.

We have collated a list for you to explore, where you can learn more about the Australian and Global healthcare industries, business management and more.

Networking

The role of a Practice Manager can often be an isolating experience. You may be the only member of senior management in your practice. If you have a question about something or simply need to workshop an idea, you could always try Google but that may not turn up much…

By networking with your community, you can learn so much from each other and have a real sense of support and camaraderie from people who ‘get it’.
