About Able Australia
Able Australia is one of Australia’s leading not-for-profit organisations, delivering high quality, person-centred services to people living with multiple disabilities, including deafblindness and in community support services.
From its beginnings in 1967 as an association for people with deafblindness, Able Australia has grown into a diverse and dynamic organisation that supports more than 4000 people throughout the Australian Capital Territory, Tasmania, Queensland and Victoria.
2017 marked Able Australia’a 50th anniversary of supporting Australians with deafblindness and multiple disabilities. In more recent years they have expanded into SE Queensland to support their senior community as well as offering disability services.
Today, Able Australia employs more than 500 staff and 300 volunteers who are passionate about ensuring every person they support is seen, heard, respected, valued and connected. Their people are enthusiastic and passionate about achieving excellent results and making a difference to the lives of the people in the community who need it the most.
Organisation Funding
More than 80% of Able Australia’s income is sourced from the NDIS which allows them to provide a diverse range of best practice support services to people with a disability (including deafblindness) and in community support programs around the country. The remainder is derived from fundraising, bequests and other sources.
